... Experience that helps me understand and support you

I grew up and studied in Belgium, where I also began my working life, before continuing my career in Spain and the UK and eventually moving to Asia. Since then, I have spent more than 25 years living and working in Taiwan and Hong Kong, while working with European and American companies across different countries and cultures.

Before becoming a counsellor, most of my career was spent in the corporate world, including senior management and consulting roles. Today, that experience sits alongside my professional counselling training and more than 25 years of mindfulness practice. It gives me different perspectives from which to understand the people I work with and the worlds they live in.

Professional Experience

Bart

I spent about thirty years in the corporate world before becoming a counsellor, working in European, American and Asian companies. This gave me a first-hand understanding of working in large organisations and the pressures that can come with them — from workplace relationships and performance expectations to leadership responsibilities and career decisions.

In my many leadership roles, I also mentored team members through career choices, performance challenges and professional development. That experience now allows me to work comfortably with clients who want to explore both the personal and practical sides of their working lives.

Cross-Cultural Experience

Bart

I have spent more than 25 years living and working in Asia, building my life in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Over that time, I have worked in both local and international environments and developed a close understanding of the different cultural expectations that can shape our working, personal and social lives.

Living across cultures has also taught me not to assume that the same choices, relationships or ways of living work everywhere. Together with extensive travel across Asia, Europe and North America, this helps me understand clients whose lives cross cultures — whether through work, relationships, family, identity or simply where they have chosen to make their home.

Personal Journey

Bart

I have practised mindfulness and compassion meditation for more than 25 years, mostly at Wat Kao Tham in Thailand. This path of personal development and practice helped me become more aware of my own thoughts and emotions, and became an important foundation when I trained as a counsellor. I now incorporate non-religious mindfulness techniques into my work with clients.

PERSONAL JOURNEY

Bart’s strength is his deep understanding of the challenges that come with navigating different cultures in both personal and professional life. In Hong Kong, this is a reality for many and often a source of stress. By building awareness and acceptance of our values, we can not only embrace cultural differences but also strengthen our self-understanding and confidently affirm our own identity.

SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

Bart has been practicing mindfulness and compassion meditation since 1993, beginning with regular retreats at Wat Kow Tham in Thailand. Depending on each person’s journey and preferences, he may include mindfulness or self-compassion exercises in therapy sessions. While these practices have roots in Buddhism, Bart’s counselling is not religious but grounded in evidence-based care.
