Anxiety, Low Mood, Depression
Whether you're taking medication or not, counselling can help you better understand what you're going through and find a way forward. You don't have to face these difficulties alone.

With or without medication
Whether you're using prescribed medication for your condition or not, therapy with a professional counsellor can help you make improvements that last over time. Bart's approach is to not pathologise your struggle, but to understand it in the context of your past and current living situation. This can lead to understanding and acceptance.

Understanding what's keeping you stuck
Medication can be very effective in treating your symptoms, but it may not address the underlying causes of your depression, anxiety or mood swings. Counselling done within a safe therapeutic relationship helps you explore and understand your difficulties and find your own way forward. It can feel like life starting again.

Tailored to your needs
The counselling style and methods used will suit your style and needs. Bart is attentive to what approach works for you, and together you decide which methods you feel more comfortable with. Bart only uses methods that are evidence-based for your particular condition, and in which he has been trained.

Working as a team
Your psychiatrist or doctor and your counsellor have different but complementary roles. Counselling can help you better understand your difficulties, cope with daily challenges, and make changes that support lasting improvements.
I believe good communication between healthcare professionals can make a real difference to your treatment. With your consent, I'm happy to take the initiative to communicate with your doctor, share relevant observations and explore how we can best support your recovery together.

Nothing about your relationship is too difficult to talk about.
Relationships can involve things that are difficult to admit, even to ourselves. Whatever has happened — and however embarrassing, complicated or uncomfortable it may feel — you can talk about it openly with me. I won't judge you or tell you what you should do. Our conversations are completely confidential, giving you a private space to understand what is happening and decide what you want to do next.
